LOCATION
Katmai Region - King Salmon, Alaska

SEASON
Early June through late September

CAPACITY
Grosvenor Lodge can accommodate a maximum of six guests per week

SPECIES
Rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, arctic char, arctic grayling, lake trout, and northern pike

GENERAL INFORMATION
Accommodating only six anglers per week, guests at Grosvenor can expect total seclusion, comfortable accommodations, and excellent fishing for rainbow trout, arctic char, lake trout, northern pike, and sockeye salmon.

LENGTH OF STAY
Standard stay is a 7 night / 7 fishing day package, although there are 4 night / 4 fishing day and 3 night / 3 fishing day packages available. Transfer days are Mondays and Fridays.

THE FISHING
Since the lodge is located in an area unfrequented by others, anglers have pretty much private access to the wide-open fishing in the lake system and the narrows. The lake system boasts one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world, which in turn provides food and nutrients for the abundant rainbow trout population. All the feeder streams, and especially the narrows directly in front of the lodge, receive a tremendous run of salmon smolt which attract large concentrations of fish to the mouths of these areas. This smolt run provides a very unique attraction that the guides at the lodge call the “Trout Boil”. The local waters have so many predatory fish crashing the smolt that you can hear the “boil” even as you sleep! By nature of its isolated location, Grosvenor can provide an amazingly quaint and exclusive Alaskan experience without using float planes and without sharing the area waters with other anglers.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
Lodge aircraft includes two Cessna 207’s equipped with turbine engines,  one Cessna 26, one DeHavilland Beaver, and one DeHavilland Otter – all of which are on floats.  A Navajo Chieftain on wheels provides round trip transportation from Anchorage.

THE LODGING
The main lodge and dining area overlook Grosvenor Lake, where filling, delicious meals and the days’ fish stories are shared. Three guest cabins house six anglers, and all are equipped with heat and electricity. A modern bathhouse is located a short walking distance from your cabin. Due to the small number of guests, the personable staff is able to satisfy your every need in remote Alaska.

Many major airlines serve Anchorage, Alaska, your final commercial destination. Upon arrival into Anchorage you will be met by a Grosvenor Lodge representative and shuttled to an adjacent airstrip for your private flight to Grosvenor.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
Photo identification for airlines and Alaskan fishing license (available at lodge.) You can also purchase your fishing license on-line prior to your trip by visiting the following website:   http://www.admin.adfg.state.ak.us/license/

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES
Grosvenor Lodge has a fantastic sister lodge located on the nearby Brooks River, meaning that day trips for what may be the best bear-viewing in the region are easily arranged. There are also day trips to the “Valley of 10,000 Smokes” and other area attractions.

OTHER INFORMATION
Katmai National Park is one of the last trophy sport fisheries in the world with a 100% native stock of fish. The fish grow and mature slowly due to the short summer season and cold water temperatures, so it is imperative that we do our best to protect this valuable resource. All hooks fished while at Grosvenor are required to be barbless, and only single hooks are allowed (no trebles). In addition to releasing unharmed all rainbows, as required by law, they also release all other freshwater species. Guests may take home a limited catch of salmon depending upon the availability of the fish and the freezer space at the lodge. Upon arrival at the lodge, the guides will show all guests proper fish handling techniques to ensure the vitality of these wonderful creatures.

While at Grosvenor, wildlife viewing opportunities abound, so we strongly recommend you bring your camera or video equipment, binoculars, plenty of memory cards and batteries. Each season clients at Grosvenor see a variety of animals such as Moose, Alaskan Brown Bear, Bald Eagles, Wolves, Lynx, and Wolverine, sometimes without even leaving the lodge!
