GENERAL INFORMATION
Guatemala has gained an international reputation as having one of the highest year-round concentrations of billfish, particularly Pacific sailfish. In fact, scientists who have studied the large numbers of sailfish off the coast of Guatemala have concluded this region may be the largest breeding ground for Pacific sailfish in the world.

LENGTH OF STAY
Standard packages last between 3 to 7 days.

THE FISHING
You will not find finer, more experienced Guatemalan crews than the ones on the boats of Sailfish Bay. They carry a variety of signature-series fly equipment, and lightweight conventional tackle is available onboard as well. Since our operators first started in business, they claim that not one client has failed to release a sailfish! To protect this amazing fishery, they practice catch-and-release and use only circle hooks (Guatemala is the first country to mandate the use of circle hooks and catch-and-release for billfish.) Their three primary boats, the “Maverick”, "Sirena", and "Gypsy", are stocked with bottled water, sodas, beer, and fresh fruit. A hot lunch, including hamburgers and chicken breast sandwiches, is served daily, and the crews will be happy to cook fresh-caught dorado or tuna. Corporate outings, packages, and special events can easily be arranged for larger groups, as our operators have relationships established with several other boats and crews.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
The three primary boats are twin 32-foot Blackfin named "Maverick" and "Gypsy" and a 35-foot Viking named "Sirena."  All of Sailfish Bay's crews are among the finest in all of Guatemala. For conventional gear, they feature Penn reels, Star and Outer Banks rods. They also carry Stu Apte Signature Series Diamondback rods and Abel fly rods and reels. "Maverick" is equipped with GPS and radio. Because the fishing community is small and friendly, captains in Guatemala regularly talk with each other during the day ensuring all clients have the best fishing available.

THE LODGING
The newly built lodge is located on a barrier island between the Chiquimulia Canal and the Pacific Ocean. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the lodge is situated close to colonial Spain's first Central America seaport, Puerto Ixtapa - a mere five-minute boat ride along the canal. The overall complex includes two, two-story bungalows with a total of eight beachfront air-conditioned bedrooms. The spacious rooms were done with a contemporary design and all rooms have a private bath and shower. There is an outdoor bar and lounge area, swimming pool and Jacuzzi, large restaurant and dining area, a gift and tackle shop, and a central office building. The pool, bar and Jacuzzi are located at the top of the property, all with a magnificent view of the ocean.

The restaurant is set at the bottom of the property overlooking the bay. As many accolades as the lodge receives on the fishing, they receive an equal number on the food and the overall service. You will enjoy breakfasts consisting of fresh fruit, cereal, pancakes and eggs cooked to order, fresh roasted Guatemalan coffee and freshly squeezed orange or pineapple juice. In the evening, the lodge's chef will prepare fresh fish on the grill, jumbo shrimp, and delicious seafood soups. The open bar features several local beers, national liquors and a great selection of Chilean wines. With 24-hour security personnel you are able to relax at the end of the day in a secluded, safe and comfortable environment.
