GENERAL INFORMATION
The Henry's Fork of the Snake River deserves its status as one of the most famous trout streams in all of the United States. Situated directly on the banks of the Henry’s Fork is TroutHunter Lodge, our number-one choice for world-class guided trips in Idaho and the Yellowstone region.

LENGTH OF STAY
Trips and packages of any length can be arranged. With so much fishing available on the Henry’s Fork, and with the lodge’s close proximity to Yellowstone Park and many of Montana’s famous rivers, TroutHunter is the perfect base of operations for fishing the region.

THE FISHING
Mention the word Yellowstone and you instantly stir the blood of the adventuresome angler for whom fly fishing holds far more significance than a simple recreational activity. If you love gorgeous water, amazing countryside and challenging trout, then a week spent fishing the Yellowstone and Henry’s Fork region should be at the top of your list. In an area that is home to some of the most famous shops, outfitters and guides found anywhere in the business, the TroutHunter operation stands alone in being the best of the best. The guide staff of TroutHunter is comprised of some of the most respected anglers and instructors in the industry, and the lodge takes extra care in pairing each angler with the guide that best serves their needs, desires, and expectations. Rene and Bonnie Harrop, Lynn and Braide Sessions, John Harrington, Travis Smith, Marty Reed, Rich and Millie Paini, and Jon Stiehl are just a few of the well-known and established names who work with and operate the lodge and guide service. When fishing a region that many consider the “PhD program of flyfishing,” it makes a huge difference having these professionals at your side. And, unlike many guides, this team does not adhere to banker’s hours. If there is an evening spinner fall or late caddis activity, anglers can choose to fish until they can no longer see their fly!

The Henry's Fork was named the favorite river by members of Trout Unlimited for good reason. With nearly 100 miles of compelling and remarkably varied water, an angler can spend days on end without fishing the same stretch and constantly experiencing different angling situations that require diverse problem solving methodology to be successful.

The Box Canyon is three miles of swift boulder strewn pocket water. This beautiful stretch of water is rich in stonefly and mayfly nymphs, caddis pupa, and sculpin. It is home to notably fat and powerful Rainbow Trout. The nymphing angler often experiences days catching great numbers of fish of all size classes. Those looking to target large fish with streamers will enjoy a float down the canyon. At certain times of the year anglers are treated to dry fly action in "The Box" as salmon fly, golden stone, caddis and grasshopper imitations invoke explosive strikes from fish.

The Harriman Ranch section of the Fork is as captivating and technical a stretch of water as you will find anywhere in the world. Here, the river slows down to a meandering crawl as it enters the world famous “Ranch.” Many a well-traveled fisherman has settled down here to spend the vast majority of his remaining angling days stalking the large, wary rainbows with which this section of river has become synonymous. Nearly all of this area is very easily waded and its openness affords unobstructed casting. The slow water stretches of this section are so rich in quantity and diversity of aquatic insect life that the trout need not be opportunistic. Instead resident rainbows have the luxury of much more food passing by them than they could possibly ingest. A fish that eats an infinitesimal percentage of the natural insects it sees is a very difficult one to coax to an artificial offering. To complicate matters, several different insect hatches often occur simultaneously. Individual fish, in turn, key in on specific life stages of specific species of insects. Proper fly selection, based on careful observation, is critical. Approaching this stretch with reverence, a degree of humility, and tempered expectations can result in priceless memories. Enjoy the pristine surroundings, test your skills, and savor your victories. You will be glad that you did.

The Lower River, the stretch of the Henry's Fork downstream of the Warm River to the confluence with the South Fork, offers great contrast to the technical waters of the Ranch with its more forgiving, action-packed fishing. The Warm River to Ashton float offers some of the region's best scenery in addition to its plentiful rainbow and brown trout. Over the course of the season you will find trout rising to salmon flies, golden stones, Yellow Sallies, caddis, pale morning duns, hoppers, and blue winged olives. Additionally, attractor dries, nymphs, and streamers account for many of the trout caught on this section.

In addition to the nearly 60 miles of varied water on the Henry's Fork, all TroutHunter guides are licensed to guide in Montana and Yellowstone Park. The finest waters on the Madison, Gibbon, and Firehole rivers are all within an hour’s drive from the lodge. Stillwater aficionados will enjoy fishing Henry's Lake, Hebgen Lake, and Island Park Reservoir. The angling opportunities in this part of the region are nearly endless.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT OFFERED
The guides at TroutHunter float the area rivers in McKenzie-style drift boats. With regards to gear and equipment, TroutHunter is a complete fly fishing outfitter offering a variety of tackle from the finest manufacturers. Their fly selection is as varied and compelling as the waters they fish! With over 1300 patterns and sizes to choose from, you will be able to address any hatch or situation you may encounter while fishing the Greater Yellowstone area. Additionally, TroutHunter offers a comprehensive and unique selection of fly tying materials.

THE LODGING
Situated only 150 feet from the river, all eleven of the lodge’s rooms feature breathtaking views and large deck areas. Amenities include a large outdoor spa, a full-service bar, dining room and restaurant, and a hand-hewn pool table for guests. The accommodations feature two queen beds, a private bath, in-floor radiant heat, a fly tying desk, full service bar, and gear storage.

Both airports usually require a connection in Salt Lake City. A shuttle service is available, but many visitors prefer to rent a car allowing them to experience a sight seeing trip in Yellowstone or a non-fishing visit to Harriman Ranch or Mesa Falls.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
Idaho and/or Montana fishing license, available at all area fly shops and sporting goods stores, or by logging on to the following websites:
Idaho Fish and Game
http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/common/licensing/licenses.htm
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES
There are many options for the non-angling guest or the angler looking to take a day off from fishing. The staff at TroutHunter can arrange horseback trips in the local area. Harriman State Park has many miles of hiking and mountain biking trails and an abundance of wildlife. For most of the summer an incredible variety of waterfowl, wading birds, songbirds, and raptors are present. Moose, elk, and deer are some of the larger animals, but you may also see coyotes, foxes, fishers, marmots, and pine martens. A trip to visit Yellowstone National Park is easily accomplished from TroutHunter. The west entrance is located 30 minutes away in the town of West Yellowstone. A day trip allows you to see many of the park’s natural wonders and wildlife, do some shopping in West Yellowstone, and return in time for dinner. In the fall, as the elk begin the rut they become more visible and their bugling can be heard many early mornings and evenings from the back porch of the Lodge. During this time arrangements can be made to view and listen to these magnificent animals on horseback or via a short hike to Golden Lake located, in Harriman Park.
